New Music project & releasing my first song

If you’ve been reading my blog for quite some time, you may have noticed that I haven’t posted in a while.

Ever since my process of joining Microsoft started back in May of 2021, I had to make some changes to quite a few components behind the scenes and I ended up dedicating most of my free time towards some of the things that I’m passionate about, but that didn’t have the chance to dedicate any time until now.

One of those things that I’m passionate about is music and that’s the topic of this new post.

I’ve created a new project highly influenced from the rock / alternative / americana bands and artists of the 90s and early 2000s. The name of this project PAB.

Why a project and not a band? Since it’s effectively just me, calling myself a band didn’t seem right and what I do to make things work is that I invite or hire musicians to help me work on the songs.

The first single: Someday, Somehow

I started working on what will be the first single of this new project on the month of July of 2021. I’ll be releasing the single on May 16, 2022.

The title of the song is “Someday, Somehow”. Hopefully I’ll be able to share more about the origin of the song someday soon, but just know that it’s a song that means quite a bit to me 🙂

The journey ahead: Data Analytics & Music ❤️

During my time off before joining Microsoft (from May 2021 until Valentine’s Day of 2022), I tried to look for ways to make use of this website or platform that I have. Some of the things that went through my head were:

• Publishing content related to Power Query on this website has a much smaller reach than if I posted something on the official Power Query channels (which I now have access to)

• Because I joined Microsoft, I’m unable to use some competitor tools due to their specific EULAs, so I’m limited on what I could use this platform for

That’s when I decided to take a much more personal approach and try to talk about a journey. My journey around analyzing the streaming data related to my project and understanding how to promote your own music online. I’m not planning to make my song be in the Top 10 songs worldwide, but rather I just want to better understand how the industry works and what’s the process for an artist to promote their song – this is nothing more than a personal project for fun.

That journey, of course, is something that I’ll be tackling on my own personal time, but I’ll be using the tools that you and I are familiar with such as Excel, Power BI, and anything that has Power Query on top of it 🙂

Join me on this new experience where I’ll try to analyze the streaming data for my song on places like Spotify, Apple Music and more using tools like Excel, Power BI and Power Query 🙂
